"The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don't have any." - Alice Walker, novelist and civil rights activist.
Hi there! Today, I want to talk about a topic that has become all too familiar in our fast-paced, always-on world: burnout. As a leader in corporate America and a mother of two, I know firsthand how burnout can impact your work life and your personal life outside of work. In this blog post, I'll share with you my personal experience with burnout and five tips for recovering from it.
Burnout is a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion caused by prolonged stress. It can leave you feeling overwhelmed, drained, and lacking in motivation. Unfortunately, burnout is all too common among women in leadership roles with families, as we often struggle to balance our demanding careers with our responsibilities at home.
For me, burnout started to set in when I was working longer hours, taking on more responsibilities, and feeling the pressure to excel at work and at home. I found myself constantly tired, stressed, and struggling to keep up with my to-do list. This, in turn, was affecting my relationships with my family and friends, and I felt disconnected from my passions and interests outside of work.
If you're feeling burned out, taking action and recovering is essential. Here are five tips that have helped me get back on track:
Prioritize self-care: Make time for activities that bring you joy and help you recharge, such as exercise, meditation, or hobbies.
Set boundaries: Learn to say "No" to additional responsibilities and prioritize your time and energy.
Connect with loved ones: Spending time with friends and family can help you feel more connected and supported.
Practice gratitude: Focus on the positive aspects of your life and cultivate an attitude of gratitude.
Get professional help: Consider seeking support from a therapist, coach, or counselor if you feel overwhelmed.
Burnout is a common challenge for women in leadership roles with families, but it doesn't have to define us. By following these steps we can overcome burnout and reclaim our energy, motivation, and passion for life. So, take the first step towards recovery today and start prioritizing your well-being!
